Kate Groves or
“the other Kate” -as her friends refer to her- was born in Boston. Her
husband, Warren, insists that she was born to the business of making
handbags because she has loved them, and loved buying them for a long
time!
Kate attended
Vassar College in Poughkeepsie New York, and Harvard Business School in
Boston. She married her husband, Warren, a Texan, “y’all” she met in
business school in 1990. The couple has two children, and the family
resides in Phoenix.

Creations
was born when Kate made a handbag for herself, and she started carrying it
around Phoenix. Everywhere she went, people would stop her to ask her
about her handbag. They wanted to know where they could get one. This
obvious pent up demand for unique, bright, fun handbags caused Kate to
leave her peaceful “soccer Mom” existence behind and start a handbag
company. Soon, many of her friends were seen sporting Kate Groves
handbags around town, and they too were continuously stopped. It became
great fun to go out with friends and to see how many times people would
stop them and ask about their handbags. Kate, who is a bit shy by nature,
soon found she was often talking to complete strangers on a daily basis
about her handbags.
Kate initially
developed four different sized handbag designs, and she has just recently
added a new evening bag design. Every bag is handcrafted of fine wools
and beautiful textured yarns. Many of the larger bags have over 30
different yarns in them. Each of the handbag sizes is named after someone
special to the designer, Kate.
To make the
handbags really unique pieces of art, Kate started designing the handles
to match the handbags. Kate has created handmade jewelry as a hobby since
she was thirteen, and she incorporates this love of jewelry into the
handles she creates for the handbags. Additionally, Kate often adds one
of a kind handcrafted buttons to her handbags as well.
The excitement
over these bags is beginning to catch on. Kate has custom designed
evening bags to match outfits for clients attending special events. One
handbag was designed for a client attending the movie premiere in Los
Angeles of the new Kate Hudson movie, Saving Helen, and another was
designed for a client attending the Bill Gates CEO Summit in
Seattle. With so many nondescript clutches and evening bags available–
these bags offer a refreshing bit of pizzazz in evening attire.
Most recently,
Kate's handbags
were featured in YES magazine.
